Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, Headquarters Staff circa 1920

£30.00

A good group photograph, 9½ x 7½ ins mounted on an old grey card album leaf titled beneath The Battalion Headquarters Staff. The regiment is identifiable from the collar badges as being the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, formerly the 47th & 81st regiments of foot, and we have reason to believe this is the 2nd Battalion. The fact that the commissioned officers and the RSM wear medals should make it fairly easy to identify them from the relevant army lists. All the medal wearers had served in WWI, one earning an MC, two with an OBE and several with mentions in despatches. The colonel and one other officer had served in the South African War. Their uniform suggests they are serving overseas when the photograph was taken, possibly in India.   feb11/1
