 Volume II only. Frontispiece portrait, [6], 427pp. Origunal olive green cloth, wear at extremities but generally a very good, clean, tight copy of this volume. This volume begins with the chase and defeat of the Peshwa 1817-18 and has chapters on that, the settlement 1819, Bombay 1819-27, overland journey through Turkey via Constantinople, 2 chapters on home life, the History of India 1834-41 (including the offer to him of the Governor-Generalship) and Conclusion 1842-1859.    feb3/3

Hon. Mountstuart Elphinstone [1774-1859] had been on the staff of Sir Arthur Wellesley at the battles of Assaye and Argaum and later was an envoy to Kabul. He was Governor of Bombay 1819-1827.
