25 engraved plates, [x], 254pp, [ii publisher’s ads]. Original full olive green leather blind stamped and gilt with elephant gilt blocked to both boards, large paper copy 9½ x 6 ins, a little rubbing to top of rear joint but an excellent copy, no foxing to the plates which retain their tissue guards, all edges gilt, contcmporary presentation inscription to a blank before the frontispiece The Gift of Sir John St. Aubyn to Juliann St. Aubyn. Aug. 1st 1835. This was the first year of printing of this title. There were a further six editions up to 1841. One of the illustrations shows thsi copy alongside a standard sixed copy of the same year, the latter from a set of seven which we will offer at some time in the future. This title has become scarcer as some dealers have specialised in splitting the books for the engravings, occasionally colouring them. mar19/8
Sir John St. Aubyn, 5th Baronet [[1758-1839] came from a prosperous Cornush family, inheriting the baronetcy in 1772, along with the family seat of Clowance. He was a Member of Parliament, High Sheriff of Cornwal, and Grand Master of the Freemasons.
