No 3. The Pickottah is a coloured lithograph mounted within a ruled border on thick paper and comes from a series by the Madras artist and publisher John Gantz: INDIAN MICROCOSM [Madras 1827]. It is fully described in Abbey Travel in Aquatint and Lithography Vol II No 445. There were just 20 prints and this one depicts the oddly distinctive method of raising water. Hobson Jobson describes it and spells the word Picottah. Oct23/3
