POLWORTH. Alexander, Lord Polworth, later 2nd Earl of Marchmont. This armorial bookplate has has a full description of the owner beneath it and is dated 1722. This reads: His Excellency Alexander Lord Polworth. Elder son of Patrick Earl of Marchmont. His Majesties Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary to the Congress at CAmbray, Lord Clerk Registerof Scotland, and Lord Liwutenant of Berwickshire. 1722  Alexander Hume Campbell, Lord Polwarth succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Marchmont in 1724, two years after the date on the bookplate. The bookplate, 107 x 80 mm, is tipped by the top edge to a piece of paper. feb11/2
