To have the honor of meeting H.R.H. Prince Albert Victor of Wales. Lord Connemara at Home. The invitation is printed on white card, 5 x 4 ins, embossed with the Royal Coat of Arms and the date Friday, the 13th Decr. is added in manuscript together with Mess Dress. The event was taking place during the Prince’s visit to India 1889-90. The event was taking place at the Governor’s Residence, Guindy Park in Madras. The back of the card has evidence of having been pasted to an old album page and there is a brown line across the top of the card. This invitation is made to Major & Mrs Hall.  This visit by the eldest son of the Prince of Wales [the future Edward VII] was a low key affair largely with military and sporting events.        aug2/6

Robert Bourke, 1st baron Connemara [1827-1902] was a politician who served as Governor of Madras Dec. 1886 to Dec 1890. An Irishman, he was the son of the 5th Earl of Mayo and brother of the 6th Earl who was assassinated while serving as Viceroy of India.
