An original invitation to the wedding of H.R.H. The Princess Mary and The Viscount Lascelles on 28th February 1922 at Westminster Abbey. The 7¼ x 5 ins card is printed beneath the gold embossed royal coat of arms beginning The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by Their Majesties to invite  and the recipients are emtered in ink Sir J. R. and Lady Chancellor.  The invitation is sold with the original, roughly opened envelope addressed Lady Chancellor, 4 Connaught Square, W.1. The flap is embossed with the royal arms and wording Ceremonial Office, St Jame’s Palace. Also included is a small printed sheet, Dress to be Worn. There is some discolouration to the card of the invitation along the top.     jul16/3

Lieutenant Colonel Sir John Robert Chancellor, GCMG, GCVO, GBE, DSO [1870-1952] had won his DSO in Tirah on the North West Frontier of India. At the time of the wedding he was a diplomat and colonial governor. Five years later he was appointed High Commisioner of Palestine.
