The excellent example of an open backed 26mm mess waiter’s button of the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers has the backmark FIRMIN LONDON and the design incorporates the regimental number 5 in its Roman numeral style V beneath the figure of St. George. In this version, which was worn from 1881 until WWI, the knight is armed with a sword rather than the more appropriate lance. sep24/2
