Sir George Stuart White, a spy cartoon of the Field Marshal

Field Marshal Sir George Stuart White, V.C., G.C.B., G.C.S.I., G.C.I.E. &c. was born in 1836 and best known for the Defence of Ladysmith in the South African War. The Spy cartoon, 13½ x 7 ins visible is in a professional window mount and currently covered in removable protective cellophane. He is shown in service dress with medal ribbons and cap. He entered the army in 1853, serving in the Indian Mutiny 1857-8 and the Afghan War of 1878-80 with the Gordon Highlanders where he won the Vi ctoria Cross at Charasia.  He was Commander-in-Chuef India 1893-98.   aug2/2
