St George LIttledale, explorer of Tibet and Central Asia. Cdv portrait of him as a boy

£50.00

The richly toned carte de visite by G. T. MILLICHIP,  LIVERPOOL shows St George Littledale probably in the early 1860s. Clement St George Royds Littledale [1851 – 1931] was born in Liverpool in a family of wealthy cotton brokers and mayors of the City. He was a renowned traveller, explorer, and big game hunter who, unusually, made expeditions with his wife, Teresa. Although he travelled in many areas, from Kashmir to Alaska and the Rockies, he is best remembered for his remarkable expedition to Tibet in the 1890s and other journeys in Central Asia. He donated numerous specimens to museum collections.  aug20/2
