St John’s Church, Calcutta, circa 1870

£20.00

A good strong photographic image viewing the church through its gateway. 5½ x 3¾ ins. Still very much in use, this is one of the earliest churches in Calcutta and very handsome. Westfield & Co made souvenir portfolios around 1870 with selections of images of the architecture of the city. This one is pasted on half an old album sheet within a printed decorative border and identified on the leaf in a neat contemporary hand.            apr9/1
