United Provinces Horse. A souvenir silver spoon with the regiment’s badge, 1937

An unusual silver spoon of tea or coffee size, 128mm, commemorating the services of the United Provinces Horse with the wording beneath the cavalry figure on the finial reading RELIEF OF LUCKNOW 1857. The well made spoon is fully hallmarked on the back of bowl by the Calcutta firm Hamilton & Co. The marks include the company’s mark together with their traditional elephant mark and the term STERLING SILVER with their date letter which stands for 1937, the year in which the company introducded a date letter system. Previously thejr work always carried the letter A. feb27/9

The design of the finial is actually the badge of the United  Provinces Horse. The cavalry figure with draawn sword represents the statue of Sir James Outram.
