Victorian Royal presentation pendant 1899

£525.00

A highly unusual and personal presentation pendant made in the simple form of the number 80 set with small diamond chips, engraved on the reverse May 24th 1899, from Victoria R.I. . The very worn suspension ring indicates that this has been a much treasured and worn memento. There is also evidence that the ring has been re-fixed at some point. The pendant measures 20 x 15 mm excluding the ring, weighs 4 gms and is not hallmarked. The precise dating of the Queen’s birthday suggests a personal present given on the very day commemorating her birth in 1819. The simple [for royalty] and small design of this item could indicate that it was given to children but details of how many were made and to whom they were given are matters for intriguing research.
