W V Y C. An officer’s gilt12mm ball button of the George III period

£35.00

The attractive little ball button is 12mm and has no backmark but the letterimg W V Y C we believe to be Westminster Yeomanry Volunteer Cavalry which assumed this name c.1797. Next to the illustrations is one of another button in this section, YORK VOLUNTEERS, which also has no backmark but the lettering and crown are in the same style. The York button is firmly attributed to the commander of the regiment and can be dated to the 1790s.  jul9/1
