Welsh Regiment, a late Victorian glengarry badge of the 3rd. Volunteer Bn.

3rd Volunteer Battalion The Welsh Regiment. A late Victorian white metal glengarry badge, 65 x 48mm. The badge, which lacks the very top point of the crown, retains the original three fixing lugs and apart from the small loss is in excellent condition. The badge has the wording THE WELSH 3RD VOLR BATTN around the Prince of Wale’s crest with its motto GWELL ANGAU NA CHYWILYDD [Death before Dishonour], all beneath a Victorian crown. The regiment was formed in 1881 from the former 41st & 69th Regiments of Foot.    jun6/3
