Contemporary full straight grain crimson morocco gilt with black title label gilt 1793], original boldly marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, MILITIA, FENCIBLES, &C 1794 in gilt to the spine label, very clean and sound with no previous ownership marks or annotation. A very attractive copy of a scarce reference work in a fine quality binding of the style favoured by royalty and aristocratic officers. The proliferation of loyal volunteers and associations of gentlemen formed in response to the fears of invasion from France result in numerous small units, now mainly long forgotten. This is the first edition to include many of these new units raised in 1793 and is dated the 28th July 1794 on the title page. nov18/1
