4th Foot The King;s Own Royal Regiment, officer’s gilt 25mm button 1855-1881

A fine example of the officer’s gilt 25mm button of the 4th King’s Own Royal Regiment with the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON. The design shows a left facing lion above the regimental number within a garter bearing the title with a Victorian crown at the top. Some of these early numbered buttons, like the 6th & 8th appear with the animal facing either direction for use when they were worn in pairs on the blue frock coat. The button retians virtually the full original gilt finish. jun8/5
