87th Foot, Royal Irish Fusiliers. An excellent example of the officer’s 26mm gilt button with the design of a a captured eagle standard taken from the French 8th Regiment as Barrosa in 1811. The backmark is FIRMIN & SONS, 153 STRAND, LONDON &13 CODUIT ST. After 1881 the 87th was known as The Royal Irish Fusiliers (Princess Victoria’s Own). The button retains virtually full gilt. apr20/3
