A lady photographed in India in Greek costume. B & S 1870s

£30.00

A gold edged cabinet card photograph, 6½ x 4¼ ins overall, by Bourne & Shepherd , the card printed by Marion imp Paris. This is the style of card used by B & S in the 1870s. Fancy dress balls and parties were a staple of high society in India, especially in Calcutta and Simla. This lady’s costume which is very much in a Greek style is not something bought in a fancy dress shop but very much tailor made from fineest materials. There are a few marks and a very small area of loss extreme top right.            may17/4
