A rajah’s elephant with 10th Hussars near Indore

£20.00

An interesting real photograph postcard, early 20th century. This very personal card cannot have been made in more than a few copies. It shows three members of the 10th Hussars, one wearing a blues tunic and side cap, the others in shirt sleeves. They pose in front of an elephant with a simple howdah, mahout and two passengers. Thes reverse has the manuscript title: Rajah’s Elephant on the way to Indore three of the 10 Hussars in front of him.        sep19/1

The 10th Hussars went out to India 1902 and were stationed initially at Mhow. In 1909 they saw action on the North West Frontier, returning to the UK sometime before WW1.
