Admiral Lord Rodney, a good mezzotint after the Gainsborough portrait

George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baron [1713-1797]. A large mezzotint portrait after the painting by Gainsborough by Gainsborough Dupont [1767-97] the nephew and pupil of the paintcr. It is in an Hogarth style frame measuring 31 x 21 ins overall, with the original framer’s label on the back – Thomas Agnew, 43 Old Bond Street, London W. A further typed label informs us that the engraving is First state before all letters. Although very active during the Seven Years War, the admiral is most remembered for his actions during the American War of Independence, especially the Battle of the Saintes. oct22/2.

NOTE: We are very reluctant to ship glazed pictures overseas and will only do so if the buyer is prepared to pay for a professional packing company to ship by courier. We will post in this country at buyer’s risk or the print can be removed from the frame and shipped with the back board. Or the buyer can arrange collection from Cheltenham.
