Bombay Light Patrol. A field cap named and dated 1940

A very good, clean example of a dark blue field cap with white facings. It carries the chrome metal badge, 40 x 32mm, of an eight pointed star centred with the City of Bombay’s coat of arms surrounded by the motto URBIS PRIMA IN INDIS  beneath a king’s Tudor crown, the regimental title BOMBAY LIGHT PATROL on a scroll beneath. Two small buttons showing B.L.P. are to the front. It is in excellent condition with just one small moth hole in the white top [shown in an illustration] and a maker’s printed cloth label to the inside of ARMY & NAVY STORES LTD. TAILORS & COSTUMIERS BOMBAY with the original owner’s name added in ink L. H. Godwyn Esq. 23.2.40. The volunteer unit had origins going back to 1885 and achieved this title in 1933 after being denominated Bombay Light Horse. It comprised just 226 members, all Europeans.
