BURMA. A 1915-16 album of small photographs of Meiktila, Central Burma

£245.00

The amateur album, which retains only the rear cover and is titled on the ftrst page Amateur Views of Meiktila, Burma, 1915-1916 has 21 pages with two small 2½ x 1¼ ins photographs to all but six sides of the multi coloured card leaves. Many of the photographs are horribly faded but of the rest there are some interesting views of Buddhist temples and statues, Panjabi temples, two interesting interior views of barrack rooms and other intriguing views of people and places. Meiktila is in central Burma in the Mandalay rergion ans has a large lake. Amateur photographs of this era are not commonly found and offer a refereshingly different view from the large formal images taken by professionals. One image showing Slaves of Buddha is particularly unusual and shows two boys carrying a large pot slung from a pole.    feb3/1
