GLOUCESTER. The 80 x 93 mm bookplate shows the full Hanoverian Royal Arms as worn 1801-1837 Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester [1776-1835], the only son of Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucestrer and Edinburgh and brother of King George III. The Prince was born at Teodoli Palace in Rome and died at Bagshot Park in Surrey, the current home of H.R.H. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh. There is some damage with loss to the upper blank parts of the bookplate, not affecting the engraved arms.
