India & UK. 3 cartes de visite of soldiers wearing association waistcoats

£30.00

Three caretes de visite sold together, showing portraits of soldiers wearing some sort of decorated waistcoat over their uniform suggesting membership of one of the many soldiers’ associations which existed in the Victorian military. We are not sure of the association or society involved but many were connected with temperance. The upper one, which may be naval, is by BALDWIN INDIA and is named beneath the figure Bro. Saxon .  The lower left one is by Lambert Weston & Son, 18 Waterloo Crescent, Dover. The lower right has no photographer’s credit although the card is noted as printed by Marion Imp. Paris.  jan17/2
