JAIPUR. A large 1938 /39 greetings card from the Maharaja to an interesting British officer serving in his forces

The 8½ x 6¼ ins card is embossed in gold with the Maharaja’s arms and is tied with red, green, blue, white, and yellow ribbon, opening to show a coloured print of the Palace on one side and printed greetiong on the other. The envelope, embossed with the arms on the flap is addressed to Subadar Major W. J. Wells, Jaipur. Wells was a sergeant in the Grenadier Guards who was initially loaned to the Maharaja to assist in the reorganisation and training of the Sawai Man Guards. He was later commissioned in the British Indian Army.     feb4/4
