MINTO. Earl of Minto, Viceroy of India, an unused example of his bookplate.

£5.00

MINTO. An unused example of the Minto bookplate used by Gilbert John Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound, 4th Earl of Minto. The 86 x 68 mm is unused and in mint state, showing the earl’s crest beneath coronet with the motto NON EGET ARCE.          jan23/2

We are able to offer this bookplate at a particularly modest price because we once acquired a pack of unused plates as  they had arrived from the printer well over 100 years ago. Lord Minto had an interesting earlier military career, when he was known by the courtesy title of Lord Melgund serving in various parts of the world, notably in Afghanistan where he went having volunteered. He was also a particularly notable horseman and probably the only Viceroy who also won the Grand National.
