Ottoman Pasha. A mysterious small painting.

£65.00

The small portait painting, 6¼ x 8ins. visible, in an old Hogarth style frame, 8 x 10 ins. shows a seated Pasha in elaborate clothing, wearing a fez and holding a sword of a style used particularly in the European areas of the old Ottoman empire. On the reverse is an inscription which I find difficult to read, the only partially clear words are the man’s name B…. Pasha. I think it is painted in oil but is is not clear and a few areas that are rubbed, particularly top right corner, might indicate that it is painted ob glass. I have not taken it out of the frame but the rather blurred effect made me wonder whether we could be looking at a reverse glass paintng that has been framed the wrong way round. A mystery for next owner to solve.   apr25/1
