An old album page with six 5 x 2½ ins. original photographs showing the arrival of the legendary Australian pilot, Sir Ross Macpherson Smith, landing the first Handley Page bomber in Delhi in November 1918 with a welcoming party of small girls with the Commander-in-Chief India, H.E. General Sir Charles Munro. The page is titled Arrival of Ross Smith in the first Handley Page Nov. 1918 DELHI . The reverse of the card shows four similarly sized photographs of mounted lance and sword practice tiled simply NEW CANTONMENTS DELHI with a small portrait of two officers identified as M.G. and J.C.B.D. The photographs appear to have been taken by a non professional and are very clear. feb9/2
Sir Ross Macpherson Smith, K.B.E., M.C. & bar, D.F.C. & 2 bars, A.F.C. [1892-1922] was a highly distinguished and pioneering Australian pilot.
