Royal Bombay Yacht Club. Armorial coat of arms embossed in blue

£6.00

The small, 25 x 20mm, arms of the yacht club includes emblems of the Order of the Star of India in an oval surrounded by the wording ROYAL BOMBAY YACHT CLUB on a garter with crossed anchors behind and an Imperial Crown above. This sort of crest would have been cut from an envelope, menu or other piece of stationery. jul22/2

Personal Note: The club survives and floursihes today and has managed to retain its name when the city has changed its name to Mumbai and so many of the traditional buildings and roads have had their Raj era names removed, such as Victoria Terminus railway station and the Prince of Wales’s Museum. I attach one image  from my own note book, showing the crest as it appears today on menus, envelopes, etc. I feel privileged to stay there when I visit the city and find it a perfectly calm relief from the bustling city which can, at times, be overwhelming.
