Wyld’s Map of the Theatre of Wars in Italy, c 1859
A Map of the Theatre of War in Italy. James Wyld [London] c 1859.
The handsome 33 x 25½ ins [84 x 64 cm] map is strongly coloured in outline and the 21 plates fold down into the original cloth covered boards blind stamped with the title and measuring 9 x 5 ins [23 x13 cm], some uneven fading to the lower edges of the boards and minor wear at corners and head and tail of spine but the linen backed map itself is clean and sound. The map was intended for people to be able to follow the events of the 2nd War of Italian Independence fought between Sardinia supported by France and the Austrian Empire. feb28/9
