The 18 x 9 ins. commission appoints Ensign Alexander Stewart of the Royals …Lieutenant in the Fourth or King’s Own Regiment of Foot and is dated Fourth November 1799 inj the Fortieth Year of His Majesty’s Reign. It is signed lower right Frederick, Commander in Chief and further signed to the lower left Robert Brownrigg, Secty. The paper is rather age marked and there is a small closed tear lower left. It is not brittle. feb5/1
Prince Frederick, Duke of York & Albany [1763-1827] was the second son of KIng George III
Alexander Stewart is not an uncomnon name but the 1806 Army List shows one serving in the First of Royal Regiment as a captain. The regiment became The Royal Scots after 1881.
