17 very good photo plates, folding coloured map, 478pp. Original blue paper covered boards with printed paper title label to buff spine, very clean condition and also internally a good clean copy although the map displays considerable brownish off-setting, bookplate to front pastedown VICEROY’S STAFF LIBRARY  No. 135. A very comprehensive and authoritative work by the State Settlement Commissioner, written rather in the form of the introductory section of a gazetteer, dealing with subjects such as archaeology (with a contribution by Aurel Stein), tribes and races, social life, political history, agriculture, etc. Yakushi L54.   oct15/8

Provenance: Clearly once in the Viceroy’s Staff Library. The fine condition that his staff probably read more about hunting in Kashmir than the contents of this sort of book. We have not come across this bookplate before.
