LUCKNOW. Two cartes de visite of the Kaiserbagh, 1870s

£35.00

Two good sepia toned carte de visite photographs, 4 x 2½ins, of the Kaiserbagh Palace complex, built in the late 1840s under the rule of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. The cards are by Dady Limjee Panday, View & Portrait Photographer, Bombay and as well as the photographer’s credit on the verso there is a contemporary printed label reading, in the case of the upper image Portion of the Kaiser Pussun (in Lucknow) No 17 and in the lower Kaiser Pussun – (Place of Kurcheree) (in Lucknow) No.       Panday opened his studio in 1870 and this image, together with a few others we have to offer, probably dates from soon after that date. These two images are priced as a pair at £35 but can each can be bought singly for £20 if required.       nov25/2
